Selena Gomez Opens Up About Mental Health and Meeting Benny Blanco in Candid ‘Therapuss’ Interview

In a heartfelt and open conversation, Selena Gomez Opens Up About Mental Health and Meeting Benny Blanco in Candid ‘Therapuss’ Interview, sitting down with host Jake Shane to discuss everything from her personal wellness journey to her blossoming relationship with music producer Benny Blanco.

Gomez kicked off her episode of the Therapuss podcast with a quick update on her life and current projects. Naturally, her beauty brand, Rare Beauty, took center stage. Launched in 2020, the brand has become known not just for its inclusive products, but for its dedication to supporting mental health initiatives — a cause close to Gomez’s heart.

“Mental health has been a huge part of my story,” she shared. “I opened up about my bipolar diagnosis because I hoped my story could help others. That honesty was a form of release for me.”

She continued, “Everything I’m involved in—whether it’s music, acting, or business — I want it to serve a purpose. My focus has always been on people who feel unseen, unheard, or unsure of what’s going on inside their own minds.”

Gomez also emphasized the importance of seeking help. “I truly believe in therapy. I take medication, and I feel very lucky to be where I am today. It’s not something to be ashamed of.”

But it wasn’t just deep talk about mental health. Another major topic of the interview was her romance with Benny Blanco. The two confirmed their relationship in 2023 and got engaged by the end of 2024. They even collaborated creatively on the emotional “I Said I Love You First” album, released earlier this year.

“I couldn’t be more excited,” Gomez said, smiling as she spoke about their upcoming wedding. “A lot is going on right now — he’s finishing up some projects, and we’re both focused on our own goals. But we’ll get to the planning soon.”

She added, “I’ve never felt this sure about anything. But I don’t want to jinx it by saying too much.”

When Shane asked how the couple first met, Gomez explained their early connection in the music industry was casual at best. “He was kind of just an acquaintance. We weren’t besties or anything — I just thought he was really nice. Then we ended up doing a few songs together.”

Their friendship remained low-key until a 2023 studio session for her single “Single Soon” reignited the spark. “We talked for two hours,” Gomez recalled. “I even asked him to set me up with someone cute. He invited me to one of his dinner parties, and… the rest is history.”

She laughed, adding, “At first, he was nervous. He said, ‘It’s work, it’s complicated, people might get mad.’ And I just said, ‘I don’t give a s—; kiss me.’”

The candid conversation gave fans a rare glimpse into Gomez’s world — both her personal struggles and her joyous moments. Whether she’s advocating for mental health or opening up about love, Selena Gomez continues to be a voice for vulnerability and authenticity.
