A big compilation album from Trax Records is coming out next month as part of the label’s 40th anniversary events.
Trax Records: The 40th Anniversary Collection comes out digitally and on vinyl on June 20. It includes singles and remixes by house pioneers like Frankie Knuckles, Marshall Jefferson, Ron Carroll, Frankie Bones, and Joey Beltram. It also includes work by the label’s late founder Larry Sherman and its longtime owner/president Rachael Cain, who has been making music under the name Screamin Rachael for a long time.
Jorge Cruz, who has been with Trax since 2009 and is the creative head of the label, put together the project. The project will be released on June 20 at a party at Chicago’s Reckless Records, where Cruz will play. Cruz’s set was about the past of Trax, and other artists like Joe Smooth, Ron Carroll, Screamin’ Rachael, and more will also play at the event.
You will also be able to buy the project through limited-edition record drops. The first group of songs from the album, which has 40 tracks in total, will be released on June 20. Each vinyl release after that will have six to seven tracks to improve sound quality, and this will continue until January 2026. Vinyl will be sold in record shops all over the world.
In 1984, the Trax plant opened in Chicago. The next year, the label business was officially incorporated. This was at the start of house music, and Trax is generally seen as an important early hub for the genre’s development and spread. In its early years, the label put out important house songs like “Your Love” by Frankie Knuckles and Jamie Principle and “The House Music Anthem (Move Your Body)” by Marshall Jefferson. It also put out many other genre-defining classics by DJ Pierre, Ron Hardy, Mr. Fingers, Phuture, Maurice Joshua, and Screamin’ Rachael.
It was also just reported that Rising Again, a six-track compilation, will be the label’s first vinyl release in more than ten years.
