In his 2024 Prime Video documentary Kids Are Growing Up: A Story About a Kid Named LAROI, The Kid LAROI gave fans an intimate look into his personal struggles with mental health. The 22-year-old Australian artist, who skyrocketed to fame after his 2021 collaboration with Justin Bieber on the global hit “Stay,” spoke honestly about the challenges of navigating adulthood while dealing with sudden success. Produced by OBB Pictures, the film shed light on his journey and the impact fame has had on his emotional well-being.

A Partnership for Change

Now, the Grammy-nominated star has partnered with Project Healthy Minds — a Millennial and Gen Z-focused mental health tech nonprofit — along with OBB Media to launch a powerful public service announcement. The PSA will run exclusively in AMC Theatres nationwide starting in September, coinciding with National Suicide Prevention Month and leading into World Mental Health Day on October 10. The initiative also aligns with Project Healthy Minds’ annual World Mental Health Day Festival in New York.

The PSA: A Call to Action

In the heartfelt video message, The Kid LAROI Shares a World Mental Health Day Message, saying:

“Oct. 10 is World Mental Health Day. This year, I’m celebrating with Project Healthy Minds and a new era of mental health, where stigmas are out and help is easy to find. Done with silence and sweeping things under the rug. Instead doing the hard work, saying the things that usually go unsaid. Because working on your mental health is uncomfortable but it’s worth it. You’re worth it and you’re not alone. So take care of your mental health.”

He encourages fans to take their first step toward healing by visiting Project Healthy Minds’ website, where free mental health resources are available.

Destigmatizing Mental Health for a Generation

According to the organizations behind the project, the PSA is designed to “destigmatize the topic of mental health, widely described as the defining issue of this generation, and raise awareness about the nonprofit’s free digital platform that connects people with resources nationwide.”

For LAROI, this cause is deeply personal. “Mental health touches everyone, including me,” he shared in a statement. “Speaking up changed my life, and I want more people to feel safe doing the same. Partnering with Project Healthy Minds helps us normalize those conversations and connect fans to free, real support.”

The Mission of Project Healthy Minds

Project Healthy Minds is committed to addressing America’s growing mental health crisis by closing the treatment gap through the world’s first digital mental health marketplace. The nonprofit works to eliminate long-standing barriers such as stigma, lack of awareness, and affordability.

Founder and CEO Phillip Schermer emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating:
“At a moment when the mental health crisis is breaking all of the wrong records, there’s something quite powerful that the iconic musician behind ‘Stay’ is telling his generation to not wait to seek help. This World Mental Health Day, Project Healthy Minds couldn’t be more proud to partner with The Kid LAROI, OBB Media and AMC Theatres to destigmatize mental health and encourage every American to access mental health services via our free online marketplace.”

Looking Ahead: World Mental Health Day Festival

As part of its initiatives, Project Healthy Minds will host its third-annual World Mental Health Day Gala and fourth-annual Festival in New York on October 9–10. The event will feature The Voice host Carson Daly and aims to bring together advocates, celebrities, and communities to continue pushing forward the conversation on mental health.
